Livestock Barbed Wire Fence

A standard barbed wire fence for livestock usually stands around 50 to 55 inches high is supported by steel posts spaced 15 to 25 feet apart. The number of wire strands you’ll need per length of fence depends on the animal being kept in or out. Sheep, for example, need seven strands, while cattle and horses generally need between 4 and 7.

Security Barbed Wire Fence

Aside from its agricultural uses, barbed wire is an excellent security measure. Barbed wire added to the top of an existing fence—often timber of chain link—consists of pole extensions with 3 or 6 strands of wire running between them.

A chain-link fence1 is a woven fence usually made from galvanized or low density polyethylene-coated steel wire. Chain-link fence offers strength, security and versatility and is more economical than ornamental fencing.

• Vinyl-Coated Chain-Link Fencing
  • Universal Fence Company offers vinyl-coated chain-link fence in a variety of colors, including beige, black, forest green, and brown. The vinyl coating is bonded to the wire mesh.

Pipe-rail fencing is welded steel pipe fencing. Universal Fence Company offers pipe-rail fence with up to four rails.

Universal Fence Company offers preformed, concrete fence panels, finished with a stone or brick pattern. These fence panels are made by filling concrete with tiny air bubbles. The finished panels are much lighter than typical concrete walls, and they also absorb sound better.

Universal Fence Company can provide both concrete and water-filled traffic barriers, including both new and used TXDOT concrete barriers. Many different types of fencing can be installed along the tops of our barriers.

The three most common styles of wood fencing are board on board, side by side (butt jointed), and shadow box.

• Board on Board
  • The most private style of wood fence is “board on board.” The pickets are nailed overlapping each other, without gaps. This style of wood fence also can be much more decorative than “side by side.”
• Shadow box
  • The pickets of a “shadow box” style fence are nailed to alternate sides of the runner, allowing air to flow freely through the fence line. This style of wood fence also allows for limited visibility; the fence line can be seen through when looked at diagonally.
• Side by Side
  • The most economical style of wood fencing is “side by side.” The pickets are nailed to the same side of the runner, side by side. Because of natural shrinkage over time, small gaps between the pickets may appear.
